Steven PowellWith 30+ years of branding, design and marketing experience (and more than a dozen industry awards), Steve Powell specializes in finding that ‘special ingredient’ that permeates any successful enterprise, then leveraging that ingredient into sizzling messages that power every creative communication he and his teams build.

During his career, Steve has created award-winning sales and promotion campaigns for General Mills, Dunkin’ Donuts and Kraft Foods, helped the New York Hall of Science raise funds for expansion and renovation, overseen design and promotion for national news stand magazines, branded and positioned two multi-million dollar companies for public offering and helped a national manufacturer re-brand through its packaging and advertising.

  • 1985

    The Early Years

    Steve began his creative career in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, relocating to New York just a few years later to “tackle the Big Apple”. His first full-time position in New York was as the art director for The New York Hall of Science in Queens, NY — followed by ten years in New York’s magazine publishing industry. In 1992, he was named Creative Director for the internet presence of national magazine titles such as Unique Homes, Viewpoint, Business Traveler and Playgirl Magazine.

    Internet Marketing & Promotions

    In the mid-1990’s, Steve left the magazine industry to explore the burgeoning internet entertainment market. As an innovative pioneer of interactive promotions, web sites and on-line games, he motivated millions of internet shoppers to buy, buy, buy for national brands such as Kraft Foods, AutoBytel, Playgirl Magazine, Pop Secret and Wrigley’s Gum — collecting seven national awards in the process. Then, designed and oversaw database-driven on-line shopping portal for over 60 national companies such as J.Jill, Panache and Chiasso.

    The Hudson Valley

    Since founding his own firm in the Hudson Valley in 2002, Steve has helped numerous local, regional and national businesses accomplish their goals and increase their revenues through smart strategic planning, meticulous branding and memorable creative communication vehicles. 2002 also marked the year Steve began working with Rockland County, New York’s Volunteer Firefighter recruitment board on a pro bono basis.

  • 2010

    Canned Fire Recruitment

    In 2010, Rockland’s Recruitment Board received a large federal grant. After struggling for years with little or no budget, the grant gave us the finances needed to create a comprehensive recruitment campaign for print, web, radio and television. The program, named Canned Fire, launched in 2010-11 and was an immediate success — eventually doubling the county’s recruitment numbers.

    Kelly Media Associates

    In 2018, Kelly Media Associates (KMA) and sPowell Associates (SPA) merged, finally cementing a unique business relationship begun more than 30 years earlier—with joint marketing, PR and advertising promotions created for the container shipping industry. The formal combination of KMA’s creative experience, recognition in the industry, skill sets and in-depth industry knowledge combined with SPA’s creative solutions, award-winning design skills and digital marketing capabilities has benefited both agencies’ clients immensely.
